A Change Is Going To Come - Arcade Fire

Yesterdays ruling in California re Prop8 is heartbreaking. This is a civil rights issue. Unfortunately the legal system won’t fix this inequality right now. But equal rights is coming. It must. And if the courts won’t fix this, then it needs to be solved in the at the ballot box. That’s our duty.

This isn’t so much a gay rights issue, this is human rights issue.

Any law that seeks to deny basic civil rights to ANY group of society would never be tolerated here in New Zealand or anywhere else. But Gay rights seem to be a loophole here, a sort of sanctioned bigotry and case for discrimination.

Just like how we look back 40 years and hang our heads in shame over how many acted during the black civil rights movement, hopefully we will act the same in another 40 years about the gay rights issue.
